Family and Childrens Medicaid

Family and Children’s Medicaid

Medicaid helps eligible families with children to pay medical bills, prescription medications, and hospital charges.  There are several different types of assistance.  All have income limits and some have resource limits.

We encourage you to apply for assistance if you have medical needs.  In some programs, we can pay bills that were incurred up to three months prior to the date of application.  You may apply for assistance in person or by mailing in a completed application.  At this time, Medicaid policy does not allow us to accept applications that are faxed to the agency.

Programs available:

Pregnant Woman Medicaid – This program covers pregnancy related medical care only, such as prenatal checkups, delivery, and the postpartum visit after delivery.  The income limit is 185% of the poverty level and there is no resource limit.  When the baby is born, the child will get up to 13 months of automatic newborn Medicaid.

Families with Children Coverage – One or both parents may be eligible to receive benefits with their children, while the children are under age 21.  Income and resource limits vary, depending on the child’s age and living situation.  In addition, an individual who lives apart from his parents or caretakers may receive benefits on their own up until they reach age 21.
