History:

The Vance County Tax Office was established in its current form in 1927.  Previous to that the county sheriff was responsible for the collection of property tax.

Responsibilities:

The tax office today is responsible for the listing, appraisal, and assessment of all real and personal property in Vance County.  The levy and collection of taxes on property by Vance County and the three municipalities inside the county is also the responsibility of the tax office.  Any license, special assessments, or special taxing districts are also collected by the Vance County Tax Office
