You can now go on-line and fill out a “voter registration application”. You will need to go to the State Board of Elections website and click on “Voter Registration” – then lick on “Voter Registration Application”. Once you have filled form out, send to the Board of Elections Office at 300 S. Garnett Street, Henderson, NC. 27536.
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 4:00 PM in the Board of Elections at the Henry A. Dennis Building.
The Board members are: Kevin Kilgore – Board Chairman, Seneca Nicholson – Board Secretary, and Catherine (Cathie) Clodfelter- Board Member.
On July 29, 2016, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit struck down photo ID requirements and associated laws in North Carolina (S.L. 2013-381, as amended by S.L. 2015-103). The state is considering its options. Barring a different outcome on appeal, photo ID will not be required in the upcoming general election (November 8, 2016). Further details will be posted as they become available.
In order to vote in this election you must be registered by Friday, October 14, 2016. Should you miss this deadline, you can register and vote during one-stop as long as you have the proper document showing PROOF OF RESIDENCE. Some of those documents are light bill, phone bill, driver’s license, payroll check, government document, etc.
Absentee voting by mail will start on Friday, September 9, 2016 and end on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. In order to request an absentee ballot by mail, you must fill out an absentee ballot request form. These forms are available at the Board of Elections Office or you can go on the State Board of Elections’ website at: www.ncsbe.gov and print one down, fill it out and send to the Board of Elections Office. Last day to return an absentee ballot is Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 5:00 pm.
One-Stop (early voting) will start on Thursday, October 20, 2016 and end on Saturday, November 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Locations and time will be announced once the Board and the State Board of Elections have approved the schedule.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Polls will open at 6:30 am and close at 7:30 pm. Voting out of precinct is allowed ONLY by voting a Provisional Ballot and only offices that will be counted are the ones that you are eligible to vote for. Therefore, it’s better to vote in your precinct so that you will be able to cast a regular ballot and all offices will be counted.
Canvass will be on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 am.
